Poor quality print head replacement: how seemingly simple maintenance can cause unexpected problems
Nowadays, it is increasingly common for customers to handle minor repairs and maintenance of their electronic devices themselves to save time and money. This also applies to label printers. So it's no wonder that many customers choose to buy spare parts and replace the print head themselves at home. Unfortunately, this process can be more complicated than it first appears, and unintended problems can occur if handled carelessly.
We were recently contacted by one of our customers who had purchased a print head for their printer through an e-shop. Convinced that he could replace the print head himself and not have to send the printer to the service centre, he set to work. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple maintenance job soon turned into an unexpected problem. The printhead bracket was broken off, a key element for holding the printhead in place.
This bracket is the key element that ensures the stability of the print head during printing. Without it, the printhead could be prone to movement and vibration, which could lead to damage to both the printhead and the printer itself.
Fortunately, in this case, the printhead survived, but that wasn't all. We also found that the pressure roller also needed to be replaced. This is another important component of the printer, which is responsible for ensuring proper contact between the paper and the print head. After seeing the photo the customer provided us, we found that the pressure roller had obvious mechanical damage, which could negatively affect the print quality and even damage the new head.
