RTLS - Revolutionary Real Time Localization System
Enter the world of digital transformation, where the Industrial Internet of Things - IIoT, Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory bring innovation at every turn. In this fast-paced environment, it's crucial to know exactly where your assets are so you can plan to use them with maximum efficiency.
Real-time locating systems (RTLS) is a way to track and locate people and objects (pallets, forklifts, tools, ...) in real time. Forget about outdated methods and limiting technologies like GPS or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). In the industrial environment, a revolutionary technology called Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is now on the rise. With UWB, you can precisely locate objects with centimeter accuracy! This brings huge benefits for logistics and production management.
One of the main arguments for acquiring RTLS is to increase the speed and efficiency of your production. By accurately tracking the location of objects and people in real time, you can eliminate wasted time and reduce errors. For example, long searches for materials, tools or parts are a thing of the past. With RTLS, you can instantly identify where the objects you need are and get them to the right place quickly. This reduces search time and enables faster order fulfillment.
Another key aspect is cost savings. RTLS allows you to optimize the use of space, resources and personnel. With accurate location tracking, you can better plan routes, minimize inefficient movements and reduce losses caused by production stoppages due to material shortages. In this way, you can maximize your production output and achieve savings in production costs.
How does it all work?
The premises (company land, production halls, warehouses, offices, ...), where the monitoring is to be carried out, you cover a network of RTLS anchors that receive signals from active RTLS tags placed on the monitored objects. This data is received by the software, which calculates the exact coordinates based on the data.
This opens the door to endless possibilities. You can easily load RTLS data into third-party applications using an open API or use the RTLS system provider's application to visualize the data. You can then view positions on an interactive map, track movement history, search for locations where engagements are occurring, and view thecations, set up restricted zones, Just-in-Time replenish material for order fulfillment, and so on. The possibilities are many - there are no limits to the imagination.
Our RTLS solution from Kathrein is a great choice not only for large companies, but also for smaller businesses. Sample applications:
Tracking
- Quickly find cars, pallets, handling trolleys, ... workers no longer have to search, but go directly to the coordinates of the marked object
- if the individual tags are marked with the order number, it is very easy to find out where the components are located on the map
Production hall
- tracking of the production process (where exactly the job and its components are located, evaluation of why they are in the same place for too long, ...)
- the possibility to start the next phase of an order only if the necessary material is located in the production hall
Logistics
- planning routes for automated robots to move pallets to empty locations and replenish materials for production to avoid congestion
- Identifying which loading bays are occupied by trucks, marked with an RTLS tag, with the ability to guide an empty truck to an available bay. The same information can be given to warehouse workers with forklifts, who are shown a map with the coordinates of the pallets to be loaded onto the truck.
Healthcare
- RTLS tags on chairs, beds and trolleys for easy tracking
Agriculture
- monitoring animal behaviour (disease prevention)
