RFID sports chip timer at running races
The sports chip timing system provides race organisers with efficient results management and athletes with a fair performance evaluation.
For the implementation, we used equipment from Kathrein, namely an RFID reader with built-in ARU 2400 antenna, WRA 7070 antennas and Tag Blower software application. Each runner has their own passive UHF RFID Tag with a foam backing that sticks to the back of the bib.
The ARU 2400 reader runs the Tag Blower software application, which sends the first and last occurrence of the tag. To transform the data sent from the application into a csv/xls file, we have created a bespoke software for the customer. The SW runs on a laptop at start/finish and thus allows writing the received data to a file.
